well here we go again! yes i got a bit lost on the last post on dancing. now i have found the wee video clip that inspired me to want swing these old arthritic legs round the floor once again. come on take those 36 seconds to watch it and you will understand why i got carried away.
Arthritis Victoria uploaded a video 1 year ago
then i noticed that its with music by Fabian and off we go again.

from the days when sue and i sat around the edges of dance halls in our frilled petticoats waiting to be twisted off the floor to the rollicking eighties.

during what should have been my greatest years of making a fool of myself on the dance floor found me with a variety of husbands not keen to dance with me. this little snapshot shows what i was up against. except for husband no. 3 who would boisterously, and without rhythm hip hop himself through folk dances. generally throw himself at all the ladies. his specialty was the hokey pokey where he tried to bump any lady next to him off the floor when he turned himself around.

so come along the eighties. no husbands. no offspring to embarrass. lots of spare and not so spare men floating round. and then there was Fabian. who was the best partner in the world for many of us who were really middle aged women.
and along with the dearest sweetest gay guys to dance with along came the feminists. many a time i was clasped to a berlei bosom and almost smothered by an eager feminist in search of a mother. oh god if only they had known then that i would get voted bad mother and grandmother of the year.
one weekend Fabian and i headed off for a country weekend in my silver sports car. mmm yes. just like the la di das do in england. the only things i can remember of that weekend was Fabian in danger of falling off the bed, very drunk in his loft. of dancing to fleetwood mac and feeling very small while being clasped to val's generously padded bosom. which took me months from which to escape.
so back to the dancing and a couple of weeks ago i decided it was time to join those beautiful oldies on the wee video clip. i phoned arthritis something or other and they told me to look up the yellow pages. or the senior citizens' clubs in my area.
wisely i chose a club and a venue far away from la de dardle. it is just a bit dicy me joining a club. ask my friend helen. i just simply take over. so off i trekked to Paradise Gardens for an afternoon of dancing and indoor bowling.
the woman leading the show was a berlie bosomed lady in a mauve twinset. and a guy with a bow tie on the piano. give it a go i said to myself. just give it a go. so in a circle we were lined up. boy girl boy girl she instructed. so i grabbed a small sweet man and tucked him under my left armpit. in trouble already. gents must go to the right. smack smack! now remembering the video i was anticipating a little bit of rock and roll. but NO!!! i couldn't believe it. you put your left hand in, you put your left hand out. now we were already in trouble at the put your left foot in stage. some of the folk from st. deidre's had lost the trick of working out left from right so we were really in a pickle.
but oh my god when they got to the turn yourself around all the men in the circle became replicas of my third husband. out came their bums, both large and small, sending the ladies on their merry way. mmm yes well my merry way was really out the door.
oh and by popular request. just see how hard it all is to distinguish left from right!!! have a geeza.
