the google sleuths and the rally

the political rally

well i tend to stay out of politics.  it all seems to roll around in an ever changing but discreet social pattern that the Australian population moves through without too much bother.  o.k. i can hear some of you moaning and groaning and disagreeing. so be it. amen.

the first time i went to a political foray was one that was related to saving lake pedder in the late 1960s.  well not that that did much good. the next effort was to save Ralphs Bay from canal development. well we won that one.

however i was moved on this occasion to rally forth on behalf of the people who are currently refugees in on shore and off shore detention centres. local, national and international efforts have not even dented the thinkling of our pollies so far. so after Australia's tony abbott had announced that we, the anonymous we, would accept 12,000 people from the tides of refugees in Europe, i thought well maybe, just maybe, we might finally also do something about the thousands of children, women and men still being held in detention.

so off i went to the rally.

we were a mixed bunch.  the lady who had organised the rally claimed no affiliation with anyone or anything. that's o.k. then we had a refugee lad who had not only found a home in Tasmania but had found jesus as well. no problem. then we had a fervent young woman who had started up family based refugee rescue groups in her regional city which were and i have to be fair, continue to be successful.

then she urged us to get ready for the 12,000 souls coming.  yes yes she cried. open up your hearts. and beat her chest. then she got up a sort of rhythm.

open up...... your heart...and let them in. open up... your heart.....and let them in. pounding her chest with her right fist in time. then i realised she was imploring us to open up our hearts and let jesus in.  again and again. only then would we be able to be kind to each other and kind to refugees. the woman behind me groaned and started to leave.

i wanted to get up with a tambourine and burst forth with the old song open up your heart and let the love shine in.  it sort of had the same rhythm. i didn't. the governor was standing next to me.

so on the way home i burst forth into song driving my friend mad. and got told they weren't the right words anyway. so enter the  Google  sleuths. all i could find was the sunday school song by the Cowboys. with the following lines

My mother told me something that everyone should know
It's all about the devil and I learned to hate him so
........
....

So let the sunshine in face it with a grin smilers never lose and frowners never win
So let the sunshine in face it with a grin open up your heart and let the sunshine in

NOT the one i wanted tho its got the right rhythm.

o.k. time to invite my super sleuth brother who can usually find anything and everything.  he is very handy and usually a very willing helper.

believing that all and everything should be on Google we persevered.  well it took us a couple of days to turn up some sheet music, no lyrics but our final triumph, Bing Crosby actually singing the song on youtube.

this has absolutely nothing to do with anything except all this can happen in the diary of an old artist.

Take a look and listen, well there is nothing to look at really, at this video on YouTube.

dog walking at La de Dardle

La de Dardle is the ideal place to own and walk a dog. believe you me.dog walkers and their dogs come in all sorts of sizes, sexes and shapes. we have walks along the wetlands, bushland tracts, around canals, along the river and the favourite of course the beach.

on many of the dog paths little portraits of individual dogs can pop up.  tho many of these little treasures have been souvenired recently.

i reckon every second person around here owns and walks a dog. as advised by the medical who ha. and its handy that all these oldies can introduce themselves by the name of their dog. and learn of the dog's emotional and medical problems rather than the human whinges. except some of the ladies who walk the beach between 8 and 9 in the morning have a fair grasp of the progress of everyone's cancer, prostrate, arthritis and dementia.

you can write the life story of a person just by watching them walk their dog. Casey's master is a nice quiet chap who adores his dog. even when he suffered a heart attack, according to my friend Jenny who knows these things, he still walked his dog.

and Bert from round at the retirement village has owned his dog Fred for 17 years, which is an amazing life for a labrador. the management round there made a special allowance. and so they should. he always carries a large stick these days as both he and Fred are feeling their age.

then there is jenny who knows all the goss on everyone around la de Dardle with her dog Mortimer. one always wonders who is walking who. especially when her blood pressure rises.

however one of ma favourites has to be my friend who is minding Lola.  along with Jack, Lucy and Maggie. she actually does not walk in la de Dardle. so no use looking!  Lola is an amazing golden retriever who as you may well guess retrieves everything. including dead kangaroos and stumpy lizards. live ones that is. the behaviour below is enough to distract Miss Lola while the stumpy is rescued.

but my very favourite dog outing was with Michael, yes i can name him, he never reads trash he says.  when Deeta the dalmatian had  six or seven puppies one hot summer he decided we would all have an outing to the beach. he chose the lagoon area and this was the result.

happy dog walking. but beware. you could end up in a cartoon
